Background

Laundry detergents have long been defined by functionality, cleanliness and generic scent descriptions. Packaging, communication and fragrances often feel interchangeable, built around efficiency rather than emotional connection. At the same time, scent has become an increasingly personal part of contemporary culture through perfume, skincare and home fragrance. This contrast became the starting point for Notera. Despite laundry being one of the closest interactions between clothing and scent in everyday life, the category still feels visually repetitive and emotionally distant. The project explores what happens when laundry detergent is approached less like a household necessity and more like a fragrance experience through scent, storytelling and design.

Solution

Notera was developed as a contemporary laundry detergent brand inspired by the visual and sensory language of niche perfumery. The concept combines modern fragrance notes with a softer and more emotional approach to branding, repositioning laundry as a more personal everyday ritual. The identity is built around muted color palettes, tactile packaging, refined typography and scent-driven storytelling. Rather than following traditional detergent aesthetics, each product was designed to feel closer to a fragrance or lifestyle object, with scent profiles such as sandalwood, leather, tonka bean, cypress and iris shaping the visual direction of the brand. Beyond aesthetics, the project also explores a more approachable and human way of communicating around laundry through contemporary design, sensory storytelling and informative yet accessible copywriting.
