Mentally Busy.
Background
Mental health among young adults has become an increasingly important issue, with many struggling with anxiety, stress, and feeling overwhelmed in everyday life. It’s a subject I personally care deeply about, which is why I chose it for my graduation project. Since illustration is also a big passion of mine, I decided to explore the topic through illustrations. I didn’t want my project to feel too heavy or overly serious. I think humor can make difficult subjects feel more approachable and easier to connect with, so finding a balance between seriousness and lightness became an important part of the project.
Solution
The posters are intended to exist in spaces where young adults already are, which is why I chose youth clinic waiting rooms as a natural setting for the project. The illustrations are inspired by situations and emotions that feel relatable for young adults today. It was important for me to create something that people could connect to in different ways, depending on their own experiences and feelings. I also liked the idea that the illustrations do not need to have one exact "correct" interpretation, even if someone doesn’t fully understand the message, they might still find something comforting, funny, or visually interesting in them.
