Background

My mother is from southern Öland, and just five minutes from her childhood home there is a small vineyard surrounded by the island’s open landscape and long tradition of craftsmanship. Spending time there made me reflect on how strong local businesses often lack the visual identity needed to communicate the same quality and care that exists in their products. That became the starting point for this rebrand. I believe good branding should not be exclusive to companies with large budgets or big-city connections, but something that can help elevate smaller, local businesses as well. Through this project I wanted to highlight Ölandic craftsmanship and create an identity that feels contemporary while still rooted in the character, culture, and atmosphere of Öland.

Solution

My work explores craftsmanship and the joy of art on Öland through paintings I created of Håks Gård in different expressions. The works are painted on old wallpaper using oil-based crayons, creating a tactile surface that reflects memory and history. I have long wanted to paint but never felt skilled enough, until I was inspired by Eva, owner and winemaker of Håks Gård, to create without needing everything to be perfect. Instead of commissioning an established artist, I chose a personal approach, centering the imagery on Håks Gård and Mörbylånga. I see a connection between myself and the estate; both carry a unique expression shaped by Öland. The label design is meant to evolve over time, where different artworks represent different vintages and each wine type receives its own expression. The concept is about making space for art and craftsmanship on Öland, just as vines need space to grow and thrive.
